Hi, I'm Joe! I design and facilitate leadership training at Gemstone, a company I cofounded with my wife Coralie.
My main work at Gemstone is to create frameworks and analogue games that help people develop their leadership skills. I deliver training to clients across all industries, from pharma to finance and non-profit to tech.
I'm passionate about logic, systems and design. In my spare time I read, code, and play the piano. I also I like composing, taking photos, and running. I'm originally from a village amongst the hills and mills of West Yorkshire, UK. 🌳
At Gemstone we've built a complete guide for management (for all those times you struggle to give feedback, wonder why delegation isn't working, or want to connect better with Gen Z!). We also work on soft skills with executives to new joiners and everyone in between. I facilitate training and design activities, simulations and games that bring the content to life. ⚡
I serve as Chair of the Board at Not a Number, an NGO aiming to facilitate positive change in the Mauritian criminal justice sector. I'm also involved in the local entrepreneurship scene: I deliver workshops to and have coached startups at Turbine Business Incubator, was part of the team that brought F*ckup Nights to Mauritius, and, together with my wife, created and ran the popular Entrepreneurs' Brunch, a meetup with guest speakers that ran for 14 editions and connected hundreds of successful and aspiring entrepreneurs. 💡
Before moving to the middle of the Indian Ocean we lived in London, where I helped major banks, insurance companies and the UK Government harness and adapt to new technologies as a Business Consultant at Fujitsu and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
My educational is a mix of business, arts and science, mostly at Newcastle University (UK), as well as a year at Concordia, Montreal (Canada), and a year at the University of Leicester (UK). It's quite a mix, and I guess it explains why I have such a strong interest in combining different fields and creating things that are cross-disciplinary. I belive that the magic lies in the intersections.
